Green and getting greener

Our environment matters – we’re working hard to protect it.

Our Commitment

Sustainability is at the heart of how we do things at Farncombe Estate. Every new project and every business development we undertake undergoes a thorough impact assessment, and whenever we can introduce a new eco measure, we do. The Estate offices, Foxhill Manor and the Fish’s Hilly huts are all powered exclusively by green energy, but we don’t stop there…

What we're doing now

  • Our staff take advantage of a fleet of electric vehicles to get around the estate
  • We have electric charging points at the Fish, with Foxhill and Dormy House to follow soon
  • Dormy House recycles grey water in its toilet facilities
  • Heat-recovery systems are in place at both Dormy House and Foxhill Manor
  • 80% of the estate uses LED lighting
  • 60% of the estate’s waste is recycled
  • We have a policy of local procurement in place to reduce emissions from delivery vehicles
  • Ground source heat pumps are used in the Stables at the Fish Hotel
  • We raise our own Farncombe lamb for use in all our hotel kitchens

In the pipeline

We’re planning on introducing a number of eco measures and sustainable practices into the daily live of the estate, with the goal of securing a Green Tourism Gold Award in the near future. These include:

  • Demonstrating our commitment to responsible land management by processing timber form our own woodlands
  • Introducing new energy-efficient exterior lighting
  • Converting waste cooking oil from our kitchen into biodiesel to power our plant equipment
  • Ensuring all new building work is conducted with sustainably sourced materials
  • Farming more of our own livestock on the estate to supply our hotels
